About the Event

The light dims, we are enveloped in more darkness, there is no more gathering in. Animals, plants and trees slow down, many retreating underground. It's a time of threshold latency. This is the Gaelic season of Samhain ("Summer's End"), the beginning of the year and the ending of a season in the Celtic cosmology. Most prominent within this time period is the turn toward the dying and release of what has been and reconnecting with ancestors. This is also the Day of the Dead recognized by many cultures and All Saint's Day in many Christian churches.

A new beginning awaits in the holy dark, the void, and the quieting.

Join with others to honor the turning toward the dark half of the year. We will engage in ritual, processes of awareness, grounding, sacred conversation, and poetry around our ancestral belonging in the cycle of the year and in this time…

With respect, acknowledgment, and love, we gather on the land of the Eastern Siouan-speaking ancestors of the Monacan Nation and Manahoac peoples, and of the Iroquoian speakers and of the Central Algonquian language speakers.
