About the Event
As we prepare for the coming Winter - an inward time, a deep time, to embrace the holy dark - we turn to nature, specifically to nature's underground. And the underground within. We will gather online (due to the upsurge in COVID) to explore the underground of our own lives and of the world we see about us. In his landmark book, Underland: A Deep Time Journey, author Robert Macfarlane names three movements that turn humans to engage the underground, across cultures and epochs:
To Shelter - memories, precious matter, messages, fragile lives
To Yield - information, wealth, metaphors, minerals, vision
To Dispose - waste, trauma, poison, secrets
We will open space to invite what is waiting in the underground. While just the thought can trigger ancient fear, since we humans spend more time "above ground." In avoiding the dark unknown, we miss the actual portal through that very fear and suffering. A place of rich and potent healing, a remembering of things long abandoned, to open space for what new thing wants to emerge.
Let's cross over and under a bit together and welcome the holy dark below and within. Bring a candle and match/lighter.
